Who is my custom home builder?
Porter Contracting, Inc. was established in 2008 when Newport Homes’ ownership dissolved their partnership, each electing to pursue individual opportunities. Eli Porter was born and raised in Englewood. He graduated from Lemon Bay High School and has worked alongside his father, Bill Porter, for many years. Bill is a reputable builder who starting building quality homes in this community as Newport Homes in 1978.

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes! Porter Contracting, Inc. is a state Certified Building Contractor with license number CBC1257064. We have a $1,000,000 general liability insurance policy. Just as important as our license and insurance, is our subcontractors’ licenses and insurance policies that are kept on file in our office at all times. Our subs are required to carry insurance policies identical to ours! This is not a standard in the industry.

How long have you been building & remodeling homes?
Porter Contracting, Inc. has been building beautiful homes in Englewood, Rotonda West, Gulf Cove, South Gulf Cove, Port Charlotte, North Port and Venice for over 40 years, first as Newport Homes and now as Porter Contracting, Inc. starting in early 2008.

Our office offers assistance in selection to allow for a smooth transition, reducing setbacks due to material availability and change orders. Goals can be met, structured budgets followed and most of all our customers are pleased.

Our concept is simply to work with only those subcontractors who can deliver superior workmanship and products. We have maintained working relationships with several of our subcontractors for decades! What are your standard Energy-Saving features?
At Porter Contracting we provide open cell foam for insulation over the living area roof deck. This allows our customers an energy savings up to 30% on their FPL bill. Ask what we do as a bonus to complete this insulation envelope! We also use Low-E, Insulated, and tinted windows and sliding glass doors which blocks ¾ of the sun’s heat energy, transmits 64% less solar energy and insulates 50% better than standard clear insulation glass. A 16 SEER HVAC system is our standard as well.

Will you remain my primary point of contact throughout the entire process?
At Porter Contracting, Inc., the Project Manager/Owner, will be the primary contact person throughout the building process. In addition to your primary contact, all staff will be able to assist you and get any questions that your may have, answered in a timely manner.

What will happen if there is a change order?
Change orders can be easily handled in your construction contract. We document change orders in writing, where the change in scope of work and the price are noted and signed by the client and contractor. Some changes can affect the job time-line as well, and that would be assessed and documented on a case by case basis.​​
